Fall Milestone Post
1 Year (& A Couple Months) After Starting a Substack
(Picture-church at Elberton town site. Our family had a Fall picnic there recently.)
One year (and a couple month) of being on Substack, here’ my “milestone post.” I blogged for many years using Wordpress. My personal site The SoderBlog is a Wordpress site. Wordpress is easy to use, but Substack is really set up for writers. I appreciate the vision of the Substack founders, especially their emphasis on free speech and beating the algorithms of big tech. Hopefully Substack will be able to remain free from woke censorship.
I’ve also attracted more subscribers here on Substack than I had on Wordpress. I’ve gained subcribers steadily, but it’s still a small following, compared to others.
So why keep doing this? I write mostly for myself. It helps me to focus my thoughts, and process what I’m reading and learning. As a teacher, I need to always push myself and keep learning. Books like How to Take Smart Notes present a compelling case that writing is the best path to deep learning, so Substack is one way I’m trying to do that.
I still don’t have any paid subscribers. If you’d like to support my writing, you should be able to do that by following this link!
But for the time being, I’m happy to write for free, for anyone who is interested.
